"We appreciate the partnership between the San Jose Police Department and Alum Rock Counseling Center (ARCC) in working with youth that are beginning down the path towards the juvenile justice system. We rely on ARCC to help us mitigate the rate of youth going back into the juvenile justice system through their extensive mentoring, truancy, and counseling programs. We applaud the work of ARCC thru both their prevention and early intervention programs and will continue to work with them to help "create responsible adults from East San Jose's highest risk youth."

-Chief of San Jose Police Department, Rob Davis

Qualifications to be a Mentor

Help make a difference in the life of a youth, Become a Mentor!

ARCC’s Mentoring program is embarking upon its 11th year of service and we’re currently looking for compassionate, committed, fun-loving adults to join our team of mentors. Help us grow the leaders of tomorrow by inspiring the youth of today. Training and support are available. No prior experience is necessary.

By donating a few hours a month, spread over the course of a year, you can significantly impact the physical, social, and emotional well-being of these students.

Your involvement will help our youth:

  • Exceed educationally at (or above) grade level
  • Provide them the guidance necessary to resist negative environmental influences that often contribute to unhealthy behaviors and school failure
  • Help mentee’s seek out appropriate role models & safe recreational activities that support/enhance school achievement
  • Utilize available resources to improve school performance to ensure middle or high graduation and post-secondary success

If you are interested in making a difference in the life of a high-risk youth, please sign-up to be a Mentor today!
