ARCC Receives Prestigious Award

Alum Rock Counseling Center (ARCC) is a recipient of Project Cornerstone’s 2008 Asset Champion Awards.
We were one of six organizations selected from a
pool of 30 nominations!
The award was accepted at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose on March 6, 2008 at their Annual Asset Champions Breakfast, attended by
over 800 guests.

Project Cornerstone was founded after a survey showed that most youth in Santa Clara County are missing the positive relationships, opportunities, values and skills—known collectively as “developmental assets”—that provide the foundation for a healthy, successful future. Search Institute's
research shows that youth need 31 or more of the
41 assets to thrive. Its 2004-2005 survey data shows Santa Clara County youth have an average of 18.8 assets. They encourage each one of us to make a difference by being asset builders for children and youth.

Alum Rock Counseling Center was chosen for Developmental Asset number #41: “Positive Cultural Identity—a young person feels proud of his or her cultural background.” We were chosen because of our staff’s experience and qualifications in offering prevention education, crisis intervention and individual counseling. Because of their age, personal histories and their own cultural backgrounds, our bilingual staff are relatable role models for the youth they serve, having overcome challenges similar to those facing the youth in their programs. ARCC’s clients know that they are understood, honored and respected for who they are and what they have
been through.
