Alternative Placement Academy (APA)
Offering Youth Help and Hope without Incarceration
“I want to be there for my son and family. I realized being in trouble with the law and using drugs has stopped me from living my own life and choosing my goals. Thanks to the APA program, I have been able to do the right thing.”
– Youth Graduate of APA
The Alternative Placement Academy (APA) is a resource that offers an approach other than incarceration for young people who have broken the law. To support these at-risk youth through a critical turning point in their lives, the APA provides counseling, life skills workshops, case management and mental health services. The mission of this culturally and linguistically sensitive program is to rehabilitate young people who have broken the law, and to support them in recognizing their issues and turning their lives around. With the help of this program, these young people gain the advantage of insightful and caring professional guidance to assist them in making the right choices. Without the APA, many of these young people would simply be locked up in juvenile hall. Through a core group of service providers led by the Santa Clara County Probation Department, these youth continue with their education and support services to turn their lives around.
